Collegeland GAC help NI Cancer Fund for Children

Collegeland O'Rahillys GAC are organising a fundraiser for NI Cancer Fund for Children. An ambitious venture, given our summer weather, having an Olympic 2012 Torch Marathon Relay around our natural peaty pitch. But the cause will be worth it.

One of our under-16 players, Joseph Kelly, who played with Naomh Eoin (Collegeland, Annaghmore, Clonmore), last year had X-ray following a leg injury which revealed a previously unknown cancerous tumor. Unfortunately this led to an amputation and follow up chemotherapy and treatment but this young man has been very resilient and has returned to a youthfull active life around Collegeland and Blackwatertown. Our Club offered help to the Kelly family but they suggested instead that we might fundraise for the NI Cancer Fund for Children which has been able to help them and other families with children who have cancer across the north and in the Armagh/Tyrone area.

The Olympic Games and Paralympic Games mottos are the same for London 2012 “Inspire a Generation”. The good news for children, older people and families on Saturday 15 September is that everyone in the community is welcome to come along with your own camera and for a small donation have your photo taken with a genuine Olympic 2012 Torch. Yes, you will be able to touch it and maybe the Olympic magic can inspire you to be the best that you can be. So bring your own camera and tell people about this once in a lifetime opportunity. Everyone is welcome.

We hope we have made our day convenient for busy people to make a quick stop in Collegeland anytime between 10 am and 5pm just to offer support, or take a photo with the Olympic Torch, and leave a small donation. If you or someone you know wishes to run or walk a lap or two in the Marathon Torch Relay then thats even better. Again just drop in on the day or, better still, contact Pat Brannigan 078 6643 6975 or Frank Donnelly 077 5180 3050 or email our Committee at the normal Club secretary address secretary.collegelandorahillys.armagh@gaa.ie

While the runners /walkers go around the pitch there will be other activities, camogie, football etc. Refreshments, burgers etc served all day.

Your support is appreciated.
