Collegeland GAC Notes – 28 May 2013

Collegeland had Lissummon as visitors to the Fr Mc Knight Park on Friday 24th of May for this Junior League Div 3A Fixture. The weather was dry and conditions were good for football. Lissummon opened the scoring with a point in the opening minute of the game and added three points in the following ten minutes. Collegeland then had their fair share of possession but could only muster a Brian McGeary pointed free for their efforts. A Collegeland attack which broke down in the forward line saw Lissummon quickly move the ball downfield which saw their forward send to the net.  Half time Collegeland 0-1, Lissummon  1-4.

Lissummon were first to score in the second half, Collegeland then had a Brian Mc Geary point. The visitors then scored another goal after thirteen minutes. Ryan Mc Parland had a point for Collegeland which was poor reward for the chances the home side had including a goal chance cleared of the line. Lissummon tagged on three more points before Brian Mc Geary had the final score of the match, a point in the closing minutes. Collegeland 0-4 Lissummon 2-8

Collegeland went in to this game with five players missing from their previous game due to injury and exams.

Collegeland GAC would like to wish Gary McCann and  Cathal McCracken a speedy recovery as both sustained an injury during the game, Cathal’s was a serious knee injury which will see him out of action for a while.

Collegeland GAC Notes – 5 May 2013

Collegeland had Forkhill as visitors to the Fr McKnight Park on Friday 3rd May for a Junior League Div 3A Fixture.  The Match took placed on  a wet and greasy pitch due to the showery rain which preceded the game.

Forkhill opened the scoring with  a Goal and a point.  Collegeland replied with three points by Paul Cullen, Tom Murphy, and Brian Mc Geary.  Another two points by the visitors increased their lead.  A  Jack McGeary score saw Collegeland trail by a goal after eighteen minutes of play. Forkhill were awarded a penalty five minutes later and found the net. The home side added a point by Tom Murphy to leave the half time score Collegeland 0-5 Forkhill 2-3.

Collegeland needed to start the second half well but it was not to be as two early  points by  Forkhill set the tone for the second half. A third  Forkhill goal after seven minutes killed this game as a contest.  The visitors added a further three points to their tally before Collegeland registered a point by Paul Cullen. Then both sides had  a point  each the home sides final score from Mickey Cullen.  Full time Collegeland 0-7 Forkhill 3-9.

Forkhill were the better team on the day and the timing of those goals clearly made a difference.  Collegeland will be asking themselves what went wrong on the night. The players must put this disappointment behind them and concentrate on their next game which is away to Belleek on Friday night at 7.30 pm.

We need to have  a good turnout off all those looking to play B football  or the Reserves as it is known. Next Reserves fixture is on Wed night away to the Grange at 7.30pm

Golf

The Players organised  Collegeland Golf Outing to Brackaville was a great success. A real mix of  adults, families and  children.
